Exact position monitoring ensures process reliability and precision for applications. Non-contact analog distance measuring sensors, such as the SM6 series sensors from Rexroth, precisely monitor the piston position and over long distances. The secret? The distance measurement range for the latest component from this series, the SM6-AL sensor, is exceptionally large: Distances of up to 1007 mm can be measured. Its aluminum housing ensures stability and torsion protection. All SM6 series sensors are characterized by accuracy and excellent output signal linearity, based on a fast proximity switching rate of 1 millisecond.

Programming of the distance measurement range is very user friendly: A control element on the sensor allows for easy and intuitive setting of the zero point, as well as variable selection of the distance measurement range. The user only has to enter the desired start and end point within the maximum possible distance measurement range of the sensor. As a result, piston movement within the cylinder’s measurement range can be recorded with high precision. This function offers maximum flexibility for designing technical solutions and programming controls.

The compact sensors are easy to assemble – either directly in the cylinder groove or to the profile using clamp brackets. Installation is also facilitated by the fact that the sensors can be installed in any orientation.
