Energy-saving speed-controlled compressors

compressors

almigThe energy-saving speed-controlled screw compressors of the Almig "Variable" range have been developed with the latest knowledge drawn from research and technology.  They are the ideal source of compressed air where the demand is variable.  The series includes a total of 19 kW classes in the range 16 to 355 kW for delivery volumes from 1.09 to 58.29 m³/min.  Operating pressure can be freely selected between 5 and 13 bar in 0.1 bar increments.

Market analyses show that conventional compressors are exploited to only some 50 to 70 % of capacity and that their maximum delivery volume (100 % utilisation) is required only at peak times.  It is precisely in this area - operation at less than full capacity - that the main application, and strengths, of the speed-controlled energy-saving Variable series compressors lie.  The successful design of this series is based on a combination of loss-free direct drive with an intelligent speed control system.  The result is significant benefits for the user:

By varying the motor speed, the series consumes only as much power as is actually necessary to produce the volume of compressed air currently required. By matching the volume flow exactly to the current demand for compressed air, costly idle times are reduced to a minimum (idling represents approx. 25 to 30% of the total power consumption of the compressor without any compressed air being produced). The Variable series maintains the pre-programmed final compression pressure constantly within a tolerance of ± 0.1 bar, and does so even with varying compressed air demand. By this means, maintaining a low final compression pressure allows more valuable energy to be saved. The use of a built-in frequency inverter and an efficient high-frequency drive motor means that all compressors in the series start up in soft start mode, without causing costly current peaks. The power consumption of the drive motor during ramp-up is always less than the rated current.

The modern Air Control microprocessor control system with its large LCD graphical display offers particular ease of communication between man and machine.  In addition to the clear-text display of all important operating parameters the LCD screen shows a wide range of other important information. The Air Control system can also be configured so as to realise a baseload alternating switch and thus to enable uniform utilisation of up to 8 additional compressors. In this respect the compressor age and manufacturer are of no relevance. Since the control of all compressors in the network is via a common pressure sensor and all linked compressors work within a single narrow pressure range, any pressure switch differentials are reduced to a minimum
