Large masses move, very high power, abrasive materials, use with any temperature and in any weather: Drive systems in mining and conveyor technology are subject to extreme loads. These are exactly the same conditions KTR were aiming at whilst developing the new floating calliper brake "KTR-Stop" Company used their considerable experience gained whilst specifying and distributing brake systems globally for many years to develop KTR-Stop.
One distinctive features of the new brake is the use of steel instead of nodular iron for the supporting components. Since steel has is more flexible, the system deforms slightly with high mechanical load. That is why the power potential of the brake system can be significantly increased. At the same time about 50 % higher power density could be achieved by this design feature. This is why it is possible in many cases to use the next size down for the application. The resulting reduction in space and weight has considerable benefits particularly with underground mining and offshore applications.
In addition to the full encapsulation of the shafts, the pistons of Stop are equipped with guide rings. They serve as wear rings to make sure that the pistons which are the most expensive parts of the brakes achieve a very high service life even with heavy dirt. A higher piston stroke allows to wear off the brake linings down to the base plate. In this way the maintenance intervals and the service life of the linings are increased. In order to further raise the operational safety, the brake has a hydraulic flow scavenging which can be used for temperature regulation in case of applications with low temperatures.
The intelligent control system IntelliRamp providing for program-controlled accurate brake processes predestines the brake for the use in critical areas, e. g. in conveyors for mining applications. The combination of high brake density with optimum controllability ensures a better brake behaviour adapted to the subsequent conveyors.
Company offer the perfect brake solution for every application – from 1 to 500 kN, in an active or spring-actuated design. This is definitely necessary with the large number of different applications. The brake systems stop, as an example, conveyor lines, bucket-wheel excavators, reclaimers and stackers. On the high seas windlasses, winches and deck cranes are braked. Serving as azimuth and rotor brakes
KTR-Stop brake systems brake wind power stations reliably even with stormy adverse winds.
